What kind of institution might distribute my media product and why ?

Certain genre of film are popular with different people. As well as this different people only like films from one big film company. For example Warner Bros will have a certain type of audience that will love watching films from there company. The film industry works by small companies working with bigger companies to reach out to the masses and distribute the media text.

An institution is a company that disperses a media product for audience consumption. The big money winner for an institution is when the media text gets released into the cinema either nationally or globally. After being in the cinema the film would then be dispersed by the institution to shops to sell DVD copy's and more merchandise of the film.

before the film is even made the producers and directors of the smaller film company will go to the institution they pick and pitch there idea to them. The institution would then decide whether they will go ahead with funding the project or say no.

Our film opening is of the Thriller genre. We also wanted our film if we were to make the rest of it to be big budget, full of action and a really exiting film to watch. I looked at many institutions that were well know for these aspects but in the end I chose that 20th Century Fox.


One of the most famous film institutions is 20th Century Fox, who probably have one of the most famous logos in the industry. This logo has also been parodied many times. 20th Century Fox was founded in 1935 which means it was one of the later film institutions, but it has certainly still had a big impact. It is owned by News Corporation, as they also own the Fox television channel, which gets them a lot of their money. The television channel alone produces many classic programs that are loved around the world, and the film side of it just makes it even better! Of course at some point they may consider updating it to '21st Century Fox', but for now they seem to be content with their original name. They tend to make very high budget films, and they try to go all out as far as money is concerned. To a lot of people though, they are not much more than a logo, as they haven't really got any theme parks or anything else to attach their audience to them, but none-the-less they are still very well known.

I chose this institution to distribute my media product because of the fact that they are very well known for making big action movies with amazing CGI or computer-generated imagery. This is exactly what i want them to be bale to add into my media product. They are also well known just for the films that they make and this is what i like about this institution. Thet do not have big theme parks that come under their name. This means that they have more focus on the actual media product because the more films they bring out the bigger recognition they will get. i also want my product to get the focus that it deserves and i feel that 20th Century Fox with be able to do this. This institution is also very good at making films that reach out to lots of people. This means the distribution scale will be massive which is what i want for my film opening. These are all the reasons why I would choose this institution as the one to distribute my media product.
